Current responsabilities

Chairman of the ESA Euclid Solar System Working Group

Following my prospective work on the capabilities of the ESA Euclid mission to study solar system objects (Carry, 2018) we have set up a Solar System Working Group within the Euclid consortium that I co-chair with Bruno Altieri (ESA). The aim of this group is to deliver catalogs of astrometry and photometry together with spectral classification for about 105 small bodies as Legacy Science.

Chairman of the Working Group 2: Ground-Based Observations of the ESA HERA mission

Together with Julia de Leon, Petr Pravec, and Colin Snodgrass, I co-chair the Working Group related to ground-based observations within the HERA investigation team. We are organizing the effort to characterize Didymos, the main target of both the NASA DART and ESA HERA missions, as well as the potential flyby targets.

ESA Gaia Consortium: DU459 Leader

Since 2012, I am involved in the Data Processing and Analysis Consortium (DPAC) of the ESA Gaia astrometry mission. I am the leader of the DU459 (a.k.a. the Gaia Follow-Up Network of Solar System Objets), the development unit within DPAC in charge of the dissemination of alerts on newly discovered solar system objects (Carry+2021).

Elected member of the Lagrange laboratory (OCA) council

I am an elected member of the council of the Lagrange laboratory, Observatoire de la Côte d'Azur (OCA), representing fellow colleagues (first term 2018-2021, re-elected late 2021).

President of the Observatoire de la Côte d'Azur (OCA) library council

Since 2018, I preside the library council of the Observatoire de la Côte d'Azur (OCA).
Referee

Referee for peer-review journals

I am often refereeing articles for scientific journals, including the Astronomical Journal, Astrophysical Journal, Astronomy & Astrophysics, Earth, Moon & Planets, Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, Icarus, Planetary & Space Science, and Science.

Awards

Lancelot M. Berkeley - New York Community Trust Prize for Meritorious Work in Astronomy 2023

In 2023, the American Astronomical Society (AAS) awarded the Gaia collaboration its Lancelot M. Berkeley - New York Community Trust Prize for Meritorious Work in Astronomy. This is a collective recognition of the work of the entire Gaia collaboration.

Laureate of the Young Researcher Prize 2017 of the SF2A

The French Astronomical and Astrophysical Society (SF2A) awarded me its Young Researcher Prize in 2017 for my work on the physical and spectral characterization of the minor bodies of our Solar System.

Asteroid 1981 ES35 named BenoitCarry

In 2012, the asteroid (8467) of provisional designation 1981 ES35 has been named in my honour. The ceremony took place during the Asteroids, Comets, Meteors meeting in Niigata, Japan. You can find informations on asteroid (8467) BenoitCarry using SsODNet.

Two-years Research Fellowship granted at the European Space Agency (ESA)

In 2010, I was offered a two-years Research Fellowship at the European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) of the European Space Agency (ESA). In 2012, the ESA granted me a one-year extension of the Research Fellowship.

Past responsabilities

Member of the French Telescope Allocation Committee for the CFHT

For four year (2018 to 2021), I was member of the Telescope Allocation Committee for the French community of the Canada-France-Hawaii Telesope (CFHT).

Member of the ESO Scientific and Technical Committee for the ELT

For six year (2015 to 2020), I was member of the ELT sub-committee of the ESO STC. We provided advises to the Scientific and Technical Committee on all the topics related to the future 39 m telescope being built by ESO, the ELT, and its instruments.

Member of the Scientific Council of PADC (2013-2017)

I represent the IMCCE at the scientific council of Paris Astronomical Data Center (PADC) (ex VO-Paris), the regional center gathering databases and Web services developed within the Virtual Observatory.

Head of the research team ACME at the IMCCE (2014-2015)

I have been elected head of the new research team "Asteroids, Comets, Meteors, and Ephemerides" (ACME) of the IMCCE during its formation process in 2014, until I moved to the Lagrange laboratory, Observatoire de la Côte d'Azur, (OCA).

Member of the ESO Observing Program Committee (2012)

I have been invited as Panel Member for the OPC, reviewing proposals for observing time for the ESO periods 90 and 91.
